DSTV Installer for Northmead, Benoni
Northmead lies about 4.4 km due north of the centre of Benoni. We get called to houses and to flats here, and the two are genuinely different jobs — not technically, but in what has to be agreed before anyone can start. A dish on your own wall is your decision. A dish on a shared building is not, and getting that the wrong way round wastes everybody's morning.
Flats, landlords and permission
If you rent, the wall is not yours to drill, and most managing agents want to be asked before a bracket goes up. It is worth getting that in writing first — it takes a phone call and it saves a dish being taken down at your expense. We are happy to explain to a landlord or agent exactly what is being fixed, where, and how it is sealed, because the honest answer is usually less alarming than what they imagine.
Some buildings already have a communal dish and a feed to each unit. Where that exists, the job becomes connecting your decoder to the existing point and checking the signal that arrives there, which is quicker and cheaper than a new dish. We check for that before quoting anything bigger.
Balconies, shared walls and the view from outside
Where a dish is allowed, the position usually has to satisfy two things at once: a clear line east-north-east, and a placement the building will accept. A balcony rail mount, a bracket on a side wall or a pole clamped clear of the parapet are all options depending on what the outlook is like from that particular unit.
Cable through a shared space needs the same care. We clip it tidily, keep it out of walkways, and route it so the next contractor working on that wall does not put a drill through it.
Houses: the ordinary job, done properly
For a house here the work is the familiar sequence — meter the positions, mount, cable, connect, scan, test at every point — and the value is in not skipping any of it. We check the signal quality rather than just the strength, because a strong but noisy signal is exactly what gives you a picture that fails when the weather turns.
If an existing system has started dropping out, tell us what changed just before it started: building work, a new wall, a storm, or nothing at all. Each of those points at a different fault and it narrows the search before we arrive.
