Two decoders is an Extra View job. Beyond that, the sensible approach changes: instead of hanging more outputs off a domestic LNB, we look at what the property actually needs and size the distribution for it, leaving room for one more point later. It is far less disruptive to pull an extra cable while the roof space is already open.

We map the points first — lounge, main bedroom, a study, a flatlet, a patio screen — and work out the dish position and cable routes from that list rather than from where the current dish happens to be. Sometimes the existing dish stays exactly where it is; sometimes moving it two metres solves three problems at once.

Decoder upgrades are a common reason to call us out here. A newer Explora will not fix a weak signal, and a system that was marginal with the old unit will be marginal with the new one — so when we swap a decoder we check the signal at the same time rather than letting you discover the problem afterwards.

Where the dish, LNB and cable are all ten or more years old, we will tell you honestly which parts are worth keeping. Sometimes it is only the LNB and a couple of connectors. Sometimes the cable has taken enough sun that replacing it is the only thing that will hold a stable picture.

We work off ladders and walk boards where we can, spread load properly where we cannot, and mount to walls in preference to roof penetrations wherever the signal allows.

Where a roof fixing genuinely is the best option, it is flashed and sealed as part of the job — not left as something to keep an eye on.
